The rapid nature of the loss of central vision resulting from Wet Age Related Macular Degeneration is why it has no stages, thus it is only known as advanced. Dry Age Related Macular Degeneration, the most common form of the disease, is the result of the light-sensitive sells of the macula slowly breaking down over time. This will cause a gradual blurring to the central vision as symptoms of macular degeneration. Because of the gradual nature, dry ARMD has three stages: early, intermediate, and advanced.
